They are not only just 12 women, they are the sign of strength and unity. Gyandeep Mahila Swasthya Samiti , in Mahor nagar ,Shahganj,Agra set the example for others that together “we can win over all odds and achieve a desired result which will be beneficial for the society as a whole. The above group comprises of 12 women members in it. All are slum dwellers. Recently they created a history as due to their strong decision and togetherness they were able to remove the problem of drinking water in their area. Though it demanded a lot of effort and struggle with govt. system to set up handpump in Mahor Nagar basti but members of Gyan deep mahila Swasthya Samiti didn’t bow down against the worst situation of non availability of drinking water in their area, rather they took a step forward, made the people aware of the consequences of consuming unhygienic water, and finally all the group members decided to hold a strike & Dharna and submitting of the application to the senior authority of the concerned Govt.department. Prior to it they took this issue as a main agenda in their group meeting. They discussed with the other influential persons in their community but didn’t get enough support from them. All the members of the group took their matkas, water containers to the office of JalNigam and sat on strike after breaking their matkkas there but still no one listened to their voice. After getting dejected response they blocked the main road and claimed that their grievances need to be listened and demand of getting water to be fulfilled at the earliest. Finally they succeeded and got the handpump installed in their basti by the Jalnigam Sansthan as a result of which now their basti people are recognizing and praising them a lot for their endless effort and strong will power to take initiative and bring a smile on the faces of the basti people.
