Action for Women and Rural Development (AWARD) is a nonprofit organization partnering with UHI in Agra to carry outcommunity mobilization and demand generation activities. With the objective to initiate urban health services in slums of Agra, AWARD has identified slums in the Trans Yamuna area. AWARD has had an active presence in many of these slums since 2001 and has executed three successful projects addressing issues of maternal and child health, nutrition, and prevention of HIV/AIDS among high-risk behavior groups. Since 1992, AWARD's social service programs have worked with underprivileged sections of society, especially women, to enhance their capacity and capability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs designed for their own growth and development .
